SPEAKING TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT THE VICTORY AT SAN SALVADOR ATENCO, MEXICO: A NATIONAL FILM SCREENING AND SPEAKING TOUR

Beginning on March 17, 2003, Greg Berger will be launching a U.S. national tour of two half-hour films about San Salvador Atenco, "Tierra, si! Aviones, no!" and "La rebelión de los machetes".

The story of the victory at Atenco demonstrates the power and viability of popular struggle during a time when the will of the people has been brushed aside by a political agenda.

Screenings will be organized on university campuses, independent media facilities, and at other venues where similar independent media tours have been hosted.

With English subtitles

Set in a small town in Colombia in the 1950s, three children named Rafael, Gonzalo, and Fernando, all eight years old, try to make themselves invisible by following instructions from a black magic book given to them by a swindler pretending to be a medicine man. They are forced to face fear head on by sacrificing animals in a cemetery and gutting them at midnight. The protagonist's motivation is the secret love he has for his neighbor, a very beautiful but unkind little girl (only she is also secretly in love with him) who he desires to get close to. Reminiscent of the tales of Colombia's master novelist Gabriel García Márquez, the story is narrated by this protagonist some fifty year later, and the tone of the story is the part tender, part hilarious, part wistful.
